Coyote Howls Park Campground, Why Arizona

Coyote Howls Campground in Why, Arizona is one of those rare desert places that is rooted in the character of the Sonoran landscape, because the area is simple, spacious, and quiet with a country feel. Coyote Howl isn’t a typical campground either. It’s a desert community, a winter refuge, and an area where the horizon feels endless. This campground is located in the tiny town of Why, Arizona. Just north of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument-the park offers a blend of rugged freedom and small-town friendliness that’s hard to find anywhere else. The campground sits in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, surrounded by Saguaro forests, small gardens, and wide-open sky. Sunsets stretch across the mountains in long bands of orange and purple, and nights are dark enough for stargazing that rivals designated dark skies. The quiet is part of the appeal: There is no traffic noise, no city grow. But you will hear the wind, birds, and occasional coyote calls that is responsible for the parks name. I have always enjoyed my return stays at this rustic country looking quiet campground. it reminds me of summer-time country visits to my grandparents’ home when I was a child. I also enjoy listening to the chatter of coyote family groups as they travel past my motorhome at night. It actually sounds like they are having group conversations. Some voices or soft, sounding like young coyotes talking back to parents. Then a husky voice will respond, and everything go’s quiet.
